Brussels, 27/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Meeting in plenary on Thursday 23 April, a large majority of the European Parliament adopted (324 votes to 11 and 15 abstentions) the own-initiative report by Gilles Savary (PES, France) on the action plan for urban mobility. Calling on the European Commission to develop an action plan in the field of transport, as foreseen in the Green Paper on the sector (EUROPE 9509), MEPs suggested: - fostering research, innovation and the exchange of good practice between local powers, transport operators and authorities; - promoting an integrated approach on urban transport in terms of transport systems, including pedestrians, public transport and bicycles; - establishing a specific European financial instrument for urban mobility under the 2014-2020 financial perspectives, in order to finance study of urban transport plans and a share of investment; - and improving the interoperability of modes of transport, standardisation and certification of material as well as the quality of services.
