Brussels, 24/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - EU foreign ministers agreed on Monday 23 February on the nomination of Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko as the new EU Special Representative (EUSR) and High Representative of the International Community to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The appointment of Inzko, who will occupy both posts simultaneously, still has to be approved by the United States, Russia and Turkey, the three other members of the Peace Implementation Council for Bosnia, said EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana, following the Council on Monday evening. The consultation procedure has been launched and the official announcement of the new European and international representative to Sarajevo could come at any time, a Council source said on Tuesday. If his appointment is confirmed, Inzko, who is currently the Austrian ambassador to Slovenia (he was the ambassador to Bosnia from 1996 to 1999) will succeed Slovak Miroslav Lajcak, who has been appointed Slovenian Foreign Minister.
