Brussels, 19/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - A new company, Coreso (Coordination of Electricity SystemOperators), the first joint regional technical coordination centre composed of several transmission system operators (TSOs), was launched on Wednesday 18 February in Brussels. The inauguration, which took place under the patronage of the Belgian and French Ministries of Energy, was attended by representatives from the European Commission and the European Parliament, notably Anne Laperrouze (ALDE, France), and by the chief executives of the French TSO, RTE, and the Belgian TSO, Elia, Dominique Maillard and Daniel Dobbeni. Created on 19 December 2008, Coreso is expected to soon include the British TSO, National Grid, once the move has been officially finalised, as well as the German TSO, Vattenfall Europe Transmission, which is taking out a minority stake. The centre, which began the first phase of its activity on 16 February this year, makes integrated services of forward-looking analysis on network security 7 days a week available to national control centres. The centre will be operational around the clock and will provide network security analyses and monitoring continuously. Coreso is the first concrete example of increased operational cooperation between TSOs, in line with the needs expressed by the Commission in its 3rd liberalisation package for the internal energy market. Its main aim is to enable better regional integration of renewable generation and to guarantee safe management of cross-border flows, which are increasing sharply with the development of intraday markets.
