10/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - Relations between Hamas and UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) are still tense but should become more normal after the Palestinian Organisation's announcement, on Friday 6 February, that the confiscation of several tonnes of UN humanitarian aid to Gaza was a “mistake” and that the aid would be restored. The Arab press on Thursday had reported on an UNRWA decision to suspend aid. It accused the Hamas police of having confiscated hundreds of food parcels as well as thousands of blankets intended for Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip. The minister for social affairs in the Hamas government, Ahmed al Kourd, had initially rejected the accusation. (F.B./transl.jl)
