10/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 9 December 2008, the Transport Council adopted a conclusions document on three European Commission reports on green transport, a strategy to incorporate external costs and measures to make train wagons less noisy. The Council noted the Commission's overall approach to internalising costs in all forms of transport, including private cars, but stressed the option of developing transport infrastructure and roads, and it stressed that in order to upgrade existing rail wagons at reasonable cost, technological issues would first need to be solved as rapidly as possible. The Council argues that it is only when the technological problems have been solved and an impact study has been carried out that it will be possible to decide on noise limits in certain regions.
