10/12/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission recently opened a public consultation exercise on the impact of the use of body scanners as a safety measure at EU airports and the fact that these scanners allow security personnel to see the naked body of the person being scanned. The consultation exercise will consider human rights, violation of personal intimacy and personal dignity, health and data protection. In addition to this consultation exercise, due to end on Friday 19 December 2008, the European Commission has set up a public-private working group on body scanners, which will hold its first meeting in Brussels on 12 December 2008.
