14/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - From Monday 17 November, nationals of six countries (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia) will no longer need a visa to travel to the United States. Before their departure, they will simply have to complete the online travel authorisation, known as ESTA. From 12 January 2009, citizens of all countries in the visa waiver program will be required to register online before travelling to the United States by air or sea. Washington says it is continuing its discussions with a view to bringing all EU countries which are not yet members - Poland, Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta and Romania - into the visa waiver scheme. “It is our objective to admit additional countries before the change of US administration,” said Jackie Bednarz, a Department of Homeland Security official in Brussels.
