New Commissioner Catherine Ashton affirms her commitment to responsible free-trade with a human face

Brussels, 21/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton was appointed on 6 October by the Council of Ministers to succeed Peter Mandelson, after his return to the British government. During her hearing at the European Parliament on Monday 20 October in Strasbourg, chaired by Helmuth Markov (GUE/NGL, Germany) the new Commissioner for trade, underlined her negotiating qualities and highlighted her commitment to responsible free trade.
