13/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On 9 October, the European Commission adopted a proposal seeking to approve agreements with ACP (Africa, Caribbean, Pacific) countries and India on the guaranteed prices for deliveries of cane sugar from 2006 to 2009. For the delivery periods from 1 July 2006 to 30 June 2007, from 1 July 2007 to 30 June 2008, and from 1 July 2008 to 30 September 2008, the guaranteed prices to ACP and Indian sugar suppliers are to be €496.8 per tonne for raw sugar and €631.9 per tonne for white sugar. For the period from 1 October 2008 to 20 June 2009 and for 1 July 2009 to 30 September 2009, the prices are to be €448.4 per tonne for raw sugar and €541.4 per tonnes for white sugar. The budgetary implications of these imports will depend on the sugar market situation, in particular on the uptake of the Community sugar sector restructuring scheme. (L.C./transl.rt)
