08/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - European co-productions travel better and draw more people than national films. That is what a new report by the European Audiovisual Observatory reveals. The report looks at the circulation and performance of European co-productions both inside and outside national markets. It also compares how they compare against entirely national films. It concludes that (1) co-productions are released on average on at least twice as many markets as national films (77% of co-productions are released on at least one non-national market, compared with 33% of national films); (2) European co-productions attract on average 2.7 times more spectators that their national equivalents; (3) in terms of admissions, non-national markets make up a larger share for co-productions than for entirely national films (41% and 15% respectively).
