08/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - ENISA, the European Network and Information Security Network Agency, has published a new report for parents of young web surfers. “Children on Virtual Worlds: 25 parental safety tips” provides advice on how best to protect children when they join the virtual world of internet surfing. There are today some 100 sites, in particular social network sites, which are aimed solely at young people, and legislators are finding it difficult to ensure full protection against possible abuses, ENISA says. Faced with this growing phenomenon (20 million young people accessed these sites in 2007), parents are best placed to ensure the best protection for their children - hence the need to give them the appropriate tools to learn about this new reality, ENISA notes.
