Brussels, 24/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 23 September, the European Commission announced that an itinerant campaign would be launched in Romania under the banner “European citizenship is not just words, but also concrete rights”. The aim is to inform EU citizens on their rights. “The purpose of this campaign, ultimately, is truly to enhance protection, promotion and respect of citizens' rights. And we believe that sending the Commission to meet our fellow EU citizens where they are is an excellent way to give them this vital information", said the European commissioner for justice, freedom and security, Jacques Barrot, in a press release. The campaign will begin in Romania in the form of a “roadshow” that will visit 40 towns between 23 September and 4 October 2008. Its aim is to make people aware of their rights as citizens of the European Union, as defined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
