GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/housing

08/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - “The Impact of the EU on Real Estate in Brussels: Between Stereotype and Underestimate" is the title of the study carried out by Nicolas Bernard, a legal expert and specialist on the right to housing from the University of Saint-Louis (Brussels). Amongst other things, this study demonstrates that it is time the authorities' to use the entire arsenal of measures at their disposal to guarantee a suitable place for people to live in a city- Brussels- which has seen extremely strong demographic pressure, itself aggravated by populations of vastly differing financial means (from the illegal immigrant to the European civil servant!). It also shows that Brussels does not have regulatory systems, such as housing payments, and that its available social housing is very low.
