04/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a press release published on Thursday 4 September on the European Parliament vote to include the classification of UN hazardous substances (GHS) in EU legislation (EUROPE 9732), the European Craft and SME Employers' Organisation (UEAPME), criticised the EP and Council compromise stipulating that substances produced in small quantities (less than a tonne) have to be notified. Guido Lena, UEAPME Director for Sustainable Development said that this would “create administrative and legal burdens for small scale manufacturers”. He also affirmed that is was “contrary to the spirit of better legislation and totally against REACH regulation, which rightly excludes these substances from registration requirements”.
