Brussels, 04/09/2008 (Agence Europe) - In a response made on Tuesday 2 September to the European Parliament's industry committee vote on reducing CO2 emissions from new vehicles (EUROPE 9732), Guido Sacconi, rapporteur at the EP's environment committee (the main proponent of this dossier), affirmed that although this vote contained interesting elements, it put the balances in the draft regulation in danger. In these conditions, the Italian MEP asked whether it would not be more appropriate to slow down the examination process and proceed to a serious impact assessment. In a press release, Mr Sacconi stated: “If we had to go in this direction, I am afraid that the planned calendar would be blocked and it would be very difficult to obtain an agreement on the regulation in a first reading under the French Presidency”. The European Parliament's environment committee is expected to give its verdict on this dossier
next Tuesday. (O.L./transl.rh)
