31/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - In June 2008, unemployment in the eurozone reached 7.3%, unchanged on May 2008 and slightly down on June 2007 (when it stood at 7.4%). In the EU27, unemployment stood at 6.8% in June 2008, also unchanged on the previous month and down compared with June 2007 (when it stood at 7.1%). The lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Denmark (2.6%) and the Netherlands (2.8%) and the highest in Spain (10.7%) and Slovakia (10.5%). Compared with the previous year, twenty-one Member States saw a fall in unemployment, five experienced a rise and one remained stable. The biggest falls were recorded in Poland (from 9.5% to 7.3%) and Bulgaria (from 7% to 5.7%) and the biggest rises in Spain (from 8.1% to 10.7%) and Ireland (from 4.5% to 5.7%).
