New Delhi symposium examining higher eduation cooperation with Asia

Brussels, 29/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European University Association (EUA), the Dutch organisation for international cooperation in higher education (Nuffic) and the German Office for University Exchanges (DAAD) will be organising a major fair on 12-14 November in New Delhi to promote European higher education and identify cooperation opportunities with Asia. This event is sponsored by the European Commission as part of the regional Europe-Asia strategy that promotes, among the three priority areas, a deepening of political cooperation in higher education. The fair also seeks to promote Europe as a centre of excellence among Indians and neighbouring countries. It will enable higher education establishments in the 27 Member States to promote their structures, programmes and experience to students by providing them with an idea of the existing potential in Europe. At the same time, a symposium on identifying possible action for Asia-Europe synergies in education is being organised. Senior representatives from Asian and European academia will be able to discus how they can develop this potential, explains the EUA, which also plans to organise other events after this first meeting. Commissioner Jan Figel, responsible for education, training, culture and youth will inaugurate the event and take part in the symposium. (I.L./trans/rh)
