09/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 8 July the European Parliament foreign affairs committee decided that Ari Vatanen MEP (UMP) should draft a report on the role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) in the structuring of European security. According to a press release, the objectives in the report are to: clarify and explain the role of NATO in the framework of the European Union's security; avoid any duplication of certain functions and subsequently facilitate efficient allocation of resources; encourage NATO to become a close partners in common foreign policy and European Union security and defence policy and produce concrete proposals on ways for attaining these objectives.
