Brussels, 09/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 8 July, the Dutch Senate adopted the law for ratifying the Lisbon Treaty. The latter had already obtained the green light from the lower house at Parliament at the beginning of June. The Dutch people rejected the draft European constitution in June 2005 but the country now becomes the 19th member state to have entirely closed the ratification procedure. (Excluding Ireland) only Spain, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Czech Republic, Poland and Germany still need to ratify. The last two countries mentioned have seen their Parliaments already ratify the text but the presidents sill have to sign the ratification law. (H.B./transl.rh)
