Brussels, 08/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - With the adoption of the report by Jacek Saryusz-Wolski (EPP-ED, Poland), the European Parliament approved, on Tuesday 8 July, at first reading (codecision procedure), the European Commission's proposal dating back to 21 May concerning amendment of Regulation 1638/2006 on the European neighbourhood and partnership instrument. The amendment has a dual aim. Firstly, it aims to clarify the existing provisions on Community funds managed by financial intermediaries for financing by loans, equity investment, guarantee funds or capital investment. Secondly, the amendment authorises the EIB to reinvest, under the Euro-Mediterranean investment and partnership facility (FEMIP), funds coming from reimbursement of earlier operations financed under MEDA and of earlier financial protocols with Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey.
