Brussels, 13/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - One week before the plenary session vote on the draft “returns directive”, the Fédération international des droits de l'homme (FIDH, International Human Rights Federation) has called on the European Parliament to correct the violations of fundamental rights in the current compromise text (see EUROPE 9681). “EU Member States succeeded in harmonising their rules governing detention and expulsion of illegal immigrants, at the price of consenting to possibilities of human rights violations,” said FIDH President Souhayr Belhassen in a press release. “The European Parliament is our last hope to redress a proposal that all civil society actors working on migrations issues have been denouncing,” she added.
