Brussels, 22/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - The direct involvement of young people in the adoption of guidelines concerning them is essential if these policies are to be a success, it was agreed by the directors-general for youth at their meeting in Brdo last week (19-22 April) under the presidency of Mr Zorko Skvor, Slovenian Director-General for Youth from the Slovenian Ministry of Education and Sport. Participants listened to the conclusions reached by young people who took part in the youth event on “encouraging participation of socially disadvantaged youth”, organised on 18 April. Their message insisted on the difficulties encountered by disadvantaged young people as well as on the role of youth in intercultural dialogue. The directors-general also discussed the future of youth policy and working methods for the next ten years and presented examples of best practice regarding disadvantaged youth policy. The conclusions of the meeting will be presented during the Education, Youth and Culture Council meeting to be held on 21 and 22 May. (I.L.)
