Legislation on national security identified in report on US trade barriers

Brussels, 22/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - Published on 18 April, the European Commission's annual report on barriers to trade and investment in the US underlines an increasing concern about the potential impact on EU chains of supply created by new US legislation governing national security on ports and freight. Other areas identified include the problems resulting from the regulatory differences and difficulties accessing US markets due to complex restrictions. On the other hand, there is a positive note in the report and the Commission welcomes the 2007 resolution of an old conflict following the US decision to abrogate countervailing duties imposed on private EU exporters until then.
