29/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - The Economic Sentiment Indicator published by the European Commission's Economic and Monetary Affairs Directorate General on Friday 29 February decreased further in February, falling by 3.1 points in the EU and by 1.6 points in the euro area, to 100.2 and 100.1 points respectively. The indicator now stands at its long-term average (the high point was in May 2007, with 114.9 and 111.9 points respectively). The Business Climate Indicator for the euro area also continued to decline on February, although it remains at a fairly high level. The decrease is mainly due to a worsening of industry managers' production expectations for the coming months and their assessments of total order books. (A.B.)
