Brussels, 26/02/2008 (Agence Europe) - The European commissioner responsible for enlargement, Olli Rehn, believes that the stabilisation and association agreement (SAA) with Bosnia-Herzegovina could be signed in April. “We should be able to sign the SAA with Bosnia-Herzegovina soon - that is, in April, on the condition that the country adopts the necessary laws on the police”, Mr Rehn told journalists in the margins of a conference on Tuesday 26 February in Brussels. On Monday, the Bosnian foreign affairs minister announced that the law on the reform of the police could be adopted in March (EUROPE 9609).
The issue will also be at the centre of a high-level seminar on Bosnia-Herzegovina's European future to be held by the European Commission on 27-28 February in Brussels. Commissioners Olli Rehn, Siim Kallas and Janez Potocnik and the major politicians from the country will examine the remaining conditions to be fulfilled before the signature of the SAA, including full cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), reform of public broadcasting and public administration reform.
