23/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 21 January, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe elected its new president for one year, Spanish Socialist Lluís Maria de Puig. Mr de Puig is to succeed René van der Linden (EPP-CD, Netherlands) as the Assembly's 24th president since it was established in 1949. He is the third Spaniard to hold the office. (O.J.)
