THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/session

15/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday, as he opened the first session of the European Parliament for 2008, President Pöttering announced that measures foreseen in the Rules of Procedure will be taken against MEPs that disrupt the signing of the Charter of Fundamental Rights during the December session, in order to prevent some MEPs from harassing the ushers unacceptably. Freedom of speech is a fundamental right of democracy, he said, and it is ensured by the Rules of Procedure. (L.G.)
