Brussels, 15/11/2007 (Agence Europe): The European Commission is to present the document which it hopes will definitively resolve the question of the allocation of slots in European airports “by the end of April”, announced Benoît Le Bret of the cabinet of the vice-president of the European Commission with responsibility for transport, Jacques Barrot, on Thursday 15 November. Instead of the anticipated revision of regulation 793/2000 for setting the common rules on this subject, the Commission adopted, on Thursday 15 November, the communication “For a better use of scarce airport capacity in Europe”. In it, it states that this regulation has brought improvements, but there is still room for further progress, particularly regarding access to the market and the effective use of slots. On the basis of this report, the Commission will continue with the consultation process it started with the stakeholders of the sector (the meeting is planned for the end of January). On the basis of the conclusions of this process, the Commission will present a document next spring.
