Brussels, 06/09/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 5 September, the European Parliament in Strasbourg adopted a resolution on the “EURES 2004-05” activities report, “Towards an Integrated European Labour Market”. The EP considers that the EURES network on worker mobility should become an important European labour market communication platform where the different actors in the European labour market can communicate with each other, as well as a single bureau dealing with geographical and professional mobility that aims to: 1) remove existing obstacles, particularly on employment related social security questions; 2) promote knowledge to all workers of their individual rights, particularly those on equal opportunities; 3) strengthen the EURES advisor network in terms of both quality and quantity; 4) extend access to job vacancy information for seasonal or short term workers in member states other than their countries of origin; 5) extend the content of the EURES portal to information on job offers in order to address the needs of third country nationals, particularly those covered by the EU's Neighbourhood Policy. The Parliament is also calling on the Commission to continue encouraging this geographical and professional mobility for workers through increasing 2007 budget line funding in support of projects in the transnational domain, and cross-border partnerships between older and newer member states and those between the newer member states.
