THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) ep/middle east

31/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - British MEP Edward McMillan-Scott (EPP-ED) has been entrusted by the EuroMed Parliamentary Assembly (in which Israeli and Palestinian MPs also participate) with the task of presenting a report in March 2008. The report will be on the contribution that parliaments of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation countries can provide with a view to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “The task for parliamentarians on both sides of the Mediterranean is to discover the roots of the Middle East tensions and find a democratic way forward”, said Mr McMillan-Scott, who describes himself as “neither pro-Arab nor pro-Israeli”. The MEP also takes the view, set out in a press release, that the international Quartet (United States, Russia, EU, United Nations) is today “discredited” and that “it is time to fully involve the 22-nationl Arab League”.
