EP energy committee approves appointment of four coordinators for several priority energy projects

Brussels, 18/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the industry transport, research and energy committee (ITRE) at the European Parliament approved the appointment of four coordinators for priority energy projects. Appointed by the European Commission, Wladyslaw Mielczarski, Georg Wilhelm Adamowitsch, Mario Monti and Jozias Van Aartsen will be responsible for monitoring progress in several priority energy infrastructure projects, and ensuring that they are completed in time. They will also be in charge of providing strategic support and practical advice for the projects. This will consist of assessing any obstacles; getting stakeholders to collaborate in developing optimum solutions; evaluating project impact on the environment, for example, and devising what appropriate strategies should be implemented. Coordinators will make annual reports to the Commission, Parliament and member states on project progress. Mr Mielczarski will be responsible for the electricity link with Northern Europe, Adamowitsch for wind turbines at sea, Monti will oversee the inter-connection between France and Spain, and Van Aartsen will coordinate the Nabucco gas pipeline project.
