11/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 10 July, the European Parliament voted in favour of four reports concerning increased participation by Romania and Bulgaria in the area of justice, freedom and security. The report by Jörg Leichtfried (PES, Austria) concerning Bulgaria and Romania's accession to the Convention of 26 May 1997 on fighting corruption involving European Community or member state officials was adopted by 648 votes in favour, 7 against and 17 abstentions. Two other reports from the MEP were also adopted, one on accession by Bulgaria and Romania to the Europol Convention of 26 July 1995, and the other on their accession to the Convention of 29 May 2000 relating to legal aid in criminal matters. MEPs also endorsed the report by the chairman of the civil liberties committee, Jean-Marie Cavada (ALDE, France) relating to Bulgaria and Romania's accession to the Convention of 26 July 1995 on the use of information technology in the customs area.
