EU asks Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco to join Frontex patrols

Brussels, 10/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has invited Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco to join the European Border Control Agency (Frontex) patrols for deterring clandestine immigrants, explained European Commission regional manager for home affairs, Axelle Nicaise, recently. She told AFP that the EU Security Commissioner Franco Frattini had recently sent a letter to the interior ministers of the countries in question, asking Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco to take part in Frontex patrols. The Commission wanted the three countries to provide equipment (planes and boats), experts and information to help Frontex in its patrols, she explained. Meanwhile, Libya is still refusing to help the European Union's efforts to combat illegal immigration. (bc)
