05/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has sent reasoned opinions to Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta and Portugal for the non-transposition of the directive on victims of human trafficking. This obliges member states to include a system in their legislation for granting specific residency permits for third country victims of human trafficking. This directive should have been transposed before 5 August 2006. Reasoned opinions have also been sent out to Greece, Spain, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom for non-respect of the directive setting out conditions for claiming refugee status and the status of awarding international protection. The date limit for transposing this legislation was set on 10 October 2006. If no reply is forthcoming in the next two months from member states, the Commission could launch proceedings at the European Court of Justice. (bc)
