Brussels, 30/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - During a visit to Greece, Regional Policy Commissioner Danuta Hübner and her Social Affairs counterpart Vladimir Spidla congratulated the Greek authorities on their National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) and their operational programmes for 2007-2013, which were submitted to the Commission on 26 January 2007. The document indicates how the European cohesion policy will be used to create increased growth and employment over the programming period 2007-2013. Greece is the second member state after Malta to see its NSRF and priorities approved by the Commission. The Greek NSRF will invest €20.12 billion over the next seven years to create more growth and employment in its “Objective1/convergence” and “Objective 2/regional competitiveness and employment” regions. The Greek priorities for 2007-2013 as described in the NSRF are: investment in the manufacturing sector of the economy, the knowledge-based society and innovation, social cohesion and employment, the modernisation of the institutional environment and the attractiveness of Greece and its regions as a destination for investment and living.
