02/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - 91% of business leaders in Belgium believe that before thinking about any further waves of enlargement, the European Union of Twenty-Seven must first of all be consolidated, according to a survey carried out by the Belgian business federation (FEB), which spoke to 399 high-level executives. 72.9% of Belgian businesses also believe that the euro is the most important achievement of European integration, followed by the opening-up of the internal borders (71.9%), according to Belga. Although the entrepreneurs are pleased that the European bodies are making an effort to speak as one in international trade negotiations, and that they enforce fair competition within the internal market, they are less than delighted with the emergence of a social Europe. 68% of respondents were not in favour of European social policy.
