Brussels, 12/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - European Union foreign ministers, meeting in Brussels on Monday, ratified the EU plan for implementing sanctions adopted by the UN Security Council (Resolution 1737) against Iran, after Tehran refused to suspend its uranium enrichment activities. The adoption of a uniform EU plan (in the form of a regulation) on sanctions (relating to the financial section) was delayed because of the difference of opinion between Spain and the United Kingdom over the arrangements for its implementation by the British colony of Gibraltar. Madrid and London have finally resolved the problem by agreeing a compromise form of written words setting out the responsibilities of the Gibraltar authorities in ensuring the freezing of Iranian assets.
