29/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - « It is very important, not only that we have forces on the ground, but also that the Afghan forces are up to the task,” EU High Representative for the CFSP Javier Solana said on Monday. Speaking after the Troika between the EU and Afghanistan, he said he felt that putting an EU police force in place on the ground was “fundamental”. Also in Berlin, Benita Ferrero-Waldner presented to the Afghan foreign minister Rangin Spanta the package of measures worth €600 million over four years which was announced by the Commission on Friday (see EUROPE 9353), which focuses on reform of the justice system, rural development and health. A high level coordination conference on the reconstruction of Afghanistan will be held. This conference will be organised by Germany as President of the G8. (ab)
