26/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - At the sidelines of the General Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier inaugurated the “Charlemagne Prize of Aachen” exhibition. The exhibition presents portraits of the 48 previous winners between 1950 and 2006, including those of Europe's founding fathers and eminent characters in the process to European unification, such as Alcide de Gasperi (1952), Jean Monnet (1953), Konrad Adenauer (1954) and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing (2003), Pat Cox/John-Paul II (2004), Carlo Azeglio Ciampi (2005) and Jean-Claude Juncker (2006). The 2007 Charlemagne Prize was awarded to Javier Solana, current High Representative for the CFSP. The presentation of the prize will take place in Aachen on 17 May. (ol)
