12/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - German debt was 1.9% of GDP in 2006, lower than previous forecasts, which predicted 2%, German finance minister Peer Steinbrück said on Friday. Berlin will communicate this figure to the Commission, which is due shortly to propose the suspension of the excessive debt procedure. According to its autumn forecast, the Commission expects Germany to have a debt of 1.6% of GDP in 2007. (ab)
