12/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - Rejecting calls on Thursday for greater political intervention in the work of the eurozone's central bank, Germany's finance minister, Peer Steinbruck, said the European Central Bank (ECB) was independent and nothing was going to change. He said that there were problems which should not be put down to the euro, and the single currency shouldn't be used as a scapegoat for problems at national level. (ab)
