Brussels, 04/01/2007 (Agence Europe) - In the area of cooperation and development the German presidency of the Council is seeking to focus on implementation of the European consensus on development policy. It also wants an increase in the amount made available to this policy, as well as greater efficiency and better results from cooperation and an improvement in the coherence of Community development policies and a higher profile in the role of women in the development process. As part of the strategy for Africa, it intends to commit itself to initiatives in the sphere of energy, good governance and HIV/AIDS. The German Presidency also wants to see the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) concluded in time (beginning of 2008) with ACP countries and will ensure that Union commitments are respected with regard to aid for trade.
