11/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - Speaking on Tuesday in Brussels during a conference on “Enhancing the security of explosives” (9 and 10 October); Franco Frattini expressed his serious concerns about illicitly manufactured explosives, pre-cursors to explosives and information in the various media, especially the internet, on how to make bombs or explosives. The Commissioner in charge of justice, freedom and security explained that as a response to these threats, an expert group on explosives and security would be set up. The structure would link public and private sectors and be in charge of preparing recommendations for next July, recommendations that would be taken into consideration by the Commission during the elaboration of an “EU Action Plan for the enhancement of the security of explosives”, which is expected to be adopted in the autumn of 2007.
