14/09/2006 (Agence Europe) - The European Maritime safety Agency (EMSA) was officially established in Lisbon on 14 September in the presence of Portuguese Prime Minister José Socrates, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso and European Transport Commissioner Jacques Barrot. The agency is responsible for giving the Commission and Member States scientific and technical advice to ensure a uniformly high level of maritime safety and security, and to prevent accidents and pollution...
