Meeting between Piebalgs and Enoksen postponed, but agreement on setting up Joint Energy Cooperation Group

Brussels, 30/08/2006 (Agence Europe) - The meeting between energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs and the Norwegian energy minister Odd Enoksen, scheduled for Wednesday in Brussels as part of the EU-Norway energy dialogue, has been postponed until 15 September at the latest. Mr Enoksen had to remain in Oslo for internal political reasons. However, in a telephone conference on Wednesday afternoon, the two agreed to establish a Joint EC-Norway Energy Cooperation Group. The task of the Group will be to examine the whole spectrum of energy issues and make concrete proposals to ministerial meetings. The first task of the Joint Energy Cooperation Group will be to draw up a discussion paper on energy developments to 2020 and the areas for strengthening bilateral cooperation. For the next meeting of the EU-Norway Energy Dialogue during the first half of 2007, the Group will also be tasked with preparing a discussion paper on security of supply and demand in the European Economic Area.
