03/08/2006 (Agence Europe) - The Commission is continuing its examination of the decision by Spain's National Energy Commission to impose a number of conditions on the merger between German E.ON and Spanish Endesa (EUROPE 9244), but has called upon Madrid to provide “clarification”, a Commission spokesman told the press on Thursday. The Commission requires a detailed explanation of why the Spanish government deems this decision to be compatible with European rules (Article 21 of the mergers regulation). According to the spokesman's department, a response to the letter signed by Commissioner Kyprianou on behalf of the Commission should come within a “matter of days”.
