GENERAL NEWS / (eu) eu/industrial production

19/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - In May 2006, industrial production in the EU, after seasonal adjustments, had increased by 1.6% in the eurozone compared to April (when it had fallen 0.7% after going up 0.8% in March), Eurostat points out. In the EU25, it rose 1.2% in May, after a 0.2% fall in April and a 0.6% rise in March. In annual terms, industrial production increased 4.9% in the eurozone and 4.7% in the EU25. Still in annual terms, durable consumer goods increased respectively by 7.6% and 8.3%, and energy production fell 0.5% and 1.9% respectively. Among the countries for which data are available, industrial production was up in nineteen Member States - especially Poland (+16.8%), Finland (+15.4%), Lithuania (14.8%), and the Czech Republic (13.8%). It fell in three: - Luxembourg (-4.4%), the United Kingdom (-0.4%) and the Netherlands (-0.3%).
