Brussels, 19/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - According to figures published by Eurostat on 17 July, the annual inflation rate in the eurozone in June 2006 was 2.5%, unchanged since May (2.1% in June 2005), and that of the EU25 - 2.4% - was also unchanged compared to May (2% in June 2005). Compared to May 2006, inflation increased in five countries, remained stable in five and fell in fourteen Member States. The lowest rates were those of Finland and Poland (1.5% each) and Austria and the Netherlands (1.6% each), and the highest were in Latvia (6.3%), Slovakia (4.5%), Estonia (4.4%) and Spain (4%). The main components presenting the highest annual rates were housing (5.2%), transport (4.7%), alcoholic drinks and tobacco (2.8%), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communications (-3.5%), leisure activities and culture (0.1%) and clothing (0.4%). Also, sub-indices having had the strongest upward impact on the global rate were fuel for transport (+0.8%), gas (+0.2%) and liquid fuel (+0.11%).
