15/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - Following a meeting with Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner in Brussels on Thursday, the Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, speaking about the EU-Georgia action plan as part of the neighbourhood policy, told press, “We are almost there”, with only a few points remaining to be “polished”. The most important for Georgia, he said, was the EU support for Georgian legal reform. He hoped the EU would be more active in the resolution of conflicts in the region (conflicts in South Ossetia and Abkhazia had to be resolved in a spirit of neighbourhood, said Ms Ferrero-Walder). Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs spoke to Mr Nogaideli about the supply of oil and gas from the Caspian region and the reform of the sector in Georgia. Mr Nogaideli highlighted the importance of cooperation with an “important transit country” like Georgia.
