Bosnia-Herzegovina admits having passed on suspects to United States

Brussels, 15/06/2006 (Agence Europe) - Bosnia-Herzegovina admitted having handed over six persons of Algerian origin to US forces on 18 January 2002, the Council of Europe states in a report on alleged CIA secret detention centres and flights transferring terrorist suspects. In his response to the Secretary General, Terry Davis, made public on Wednesday, the Bosnian Foreign Minister, Mladen Ivanic, admitted that there had been no legal or formal extradition procedure against these persons, still held at Guantanamo today. In a summary of his report, Mr Davis criticises the legislation in force in European countries which, he says, do “not offer sufficient guarantees”. The provisions for protecting people against human rights violations committed by agents of foreign secret services seem to be the exception rather than the rule, he said.
